Honeywell to supply control and safety for North Sea platforms
October 11, 2011 - Honeywell has been selected by RWE Dea to design and install the Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) at both of RWE Dea’s new North Sea platforms, Clipper South and Breagh A. The projects, which are scheduled for completion at the end of 2011, will see Honeywell’s ICSS implemented at the two RWE Dea’s North Sea platforms, simplifying operator training procedures and greatly reducing maintenance costs as the company continues its expansion into the region.
The Breagh field is located in the Southern North Sea, approximately 86km from RWE Dea UK's Cavendish gas field. The resources of Breagh gas field, together with its surrounding fields, constitute one of the largest undeveloped natural gas discoveries in the Southern North Sea. The Clipper South field also lies in the Southern North Sea. Production is expected to start in both locations in 2012.
RWE Dea chose the HPS technology following the successful implementation of its ICSS at RWE’s Cavendish platform five years ago. Once installed it will provide a single system architecture that is simple, robust and modular and delivers the lowest total cost of ownership while safe guarding users’ investment for years to come. At the heart of the solution is HPS’ Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS), which transforms process control beyond traditional Distributed Control System functionality by unifying people with process variables, business requirements and asset management.
“RWE Dea, as part of RWE - one of Europe’s leading energy providers - is continually looking to expand its operations and we are pleased to be extending our relationship through the provision of control and safety solutions at both of its new North Sea sites,” said Orhan Genis, vice president, sales, Honeywell Process Solutions, EMEA. “Our ICSS solution will give them a universal technology platform, which cuts down operating and maintenance costs while simplifying and standardizing operator training.”
