Acromag Introduces BusWorks® 900EN Series I/O Modules With Ethernet/IP Protocol

Acromag Introduces BusWorks® 900EN Series I/O Modules With Ethernet/IP Protocol
Acromag introduces BusWorks® 900EN Series I/O modules with Ethernet/IP protocol at ISA 2004. Each I/O module has a built-in network port, eliminating the space and expense of a buscoupler unit.

Acromag’s new BusWorks® 900EN Series I/O Modules interface up to 12 analog or discrete I/O signals directly to an Ethernet/IP™ network. Since each remote I/O module has its own Ethernet port, it can operate independently of a buscoupler or controller that typically handles network communication for modular/block I/O systems. Without those expensive communication devices, Acromag’s I/O modules are able to deliver a far more cost and space-efficient solution. No software is required either, because the setup uses a standard Internet browser. A complete 12-channel I/O solution starts at just $350 and only needs one inch of DIN rail space.

The I/O modules provide an isolated Ethernet/IP 10/100 Mbps network interface. To ensure interoperability, the units have passed the internationally recognized Ethernet/IP conformance tests established by the ODVA™ (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association). They are among the first I/O modules to receive this certification. Modbus/TCP versions are also available.

Three I/O module types are available. The discrete I/O modules are ideal for on/off monitoring and control of industrial devices. Analog input modules interface DC voltage, current or temperature signals from sensors to the network. Analog output modules provide DC current or voltage control signals for displays, drives, or other variable level devices. All units operate off standard 12-36V DC power supplies for greater flexibility. They also carry CE approvals and UL/cUL listing for Class I Division 2 installations.

A long list of standard features ensure dependable operation. All units have three-way 1500V AC isolation separating the I/O, network and power circuits to prevent damage from surges and ground loop errors. An internal microcontroller processes the I/O signals and directs all operations. Built-in watchdog timers monitor for network communication problems while self-diagnostic routines simplify maintenance and troubleshooting. A failsafe mode can also be set to ensure outputs are sent to a safe state if a failure occurs. Integrated non-volatile memory provides reliable storage of the configuration parameters. And to visually confirm proper operation, LEDs indicate power, network activity, and individual channel status.

Discrete I/O is offered on three models with a choice of twelve input channels, twelve output channels, or twelve individually selectable bi-directional input/output channels. The input channels are active-low with a 0-35V DC range and TTL-compatible. Output channels are open-drain DMOS mosfet switches with a 0-35V DC range for current sinking applications.

Six analog input models accept single-ended 0-20mA or ±10V DC signals, differential voltage or current inputs, or thermocouple and RTD temperature sensors. 16-bit sigma-delta A/D converters deliver high accuracy for precise measurements.
Analog output models provide 0 to 20mA DC current output or 0 to 10V DC voltage output signals. Both versions employ a 12-bit D/A converter to deliver highly accurate output signals.

Acromag, a multi-million dollar international corporation, has been manufacturing and developing measurement and control products for more than 45 years. They offer a complete line of industrial I/O products including process instruments, signal conditioning equipment, data acquisition boards, distributed I/O systems, and communication devices.
