Dedham, Massachusetts; September 14, 2007: ARC Advisory Group and General Motors (GM) will host a benchmarking workshop for discrete manufacturers on Tues-day, November 6, 2007 at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. This workshop will focus on controls, plant floor systems, and PLM/Digital Manufacturing (DM) strategies.

Workshop Topics
Strategies for controls, plant floor systems, and PLM/DM systems are typically developed and executed based on a company’s internal knowledge and key supplier product offerings. The cost structure for deploying and maintaining these systems are also based on key supplier cost structures and internal company standards. There is little information available to companies on the costs, benefits, and how other discrete manufacturers are approaching their control, plant floor, and PLM/DM system strategies. Workshop topics include:
  • The use of a single automation supplier versus multiple suppliers.
  • The processes and practices of integrating control systems with higher level manufacturing execution systems such as: PM&C, Andon, error proofing and scheduling.
  • Commercial off the shelf system platforms such as: GE Proficy, Iconics, Rockwell Factory Talk, and Siemens Semantic IT, which are used to implement MES systems and enable integration.
  • The use of PLM/DM tools to help optimize and validate manufacturing designs.

Users will learn how other discrete manufacturers are designing and dep-loying controls, plant floor systems, and PLM/DM tools. Attendees will also gain an understanding of important new practices and technologies and will be able to collaborate with other discrete users to define new metrics and establish best practices.

For more information or to register for the workshop at no cost, please contact Al Bissmeyer at alb@arcweb.com or 502-412-7797.
