Research Triangle Park, NC – October 17, 2007 - The first annual Automation Executive Summit was held on 3 October in conjunction with ISA EXPO 2007 in Houston, Texas. The Automation Executive Summit topics of discussion centered on workforce development, ISA's programs to attract and train the next generation of knowledge workers, and the plans of companies for addressing their personnel needs.

Attendees at the summit identified several major challenges for the next decade, including the recruitment of skilled workers, building a closer relationship with government entities, the strengthening of engineering departments and career counseling at universities, international exposure and awareness about the profession, and the future of the profession over the next 20 years.

Possible solutions and programs were discussed in each area of concern, and ISA plans to utilize the feedback and ideas from the summit in its workforce development program. A select group of industry executives participated in the event. ISA executives, including CEO and Executive Director Pat Gouhin, President Steve Huffman of Mead O'Brien, and President Elect Kim Miller Dunn of Emerson Process Management moderated the session.

Next year's summit will be held 15 October, 2008, in conjunction with ISA EXPO 2008 at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas.
