October 24, 2011 — On the 25-year anniversary of its founding, Barry-Wehmiller Design Group, Inc. has reached a new milestone as the firm has crossed over the 500 professionals threshold. This achievement highlights a period of exceptional growth for the engineering consulting firm, which has increased twentyfold since the mid-1990s.

“Exceeding 500 professionals within Design Group marks a significant achievement for our firm,” said Managing Partner Joseph Wilhelm. “Our consistent growth over the last two decades serves as an affirmation from our clients that they recognize the value of our technology services and that they appreciate the quality of our professional team.”

Design Group began in 1986 with a single office, a handful of engineers and a clear vision: to provide engineering solutions to clients in a manner autonomous and independent from equipment providers. Over the course of the next 25 years, Design Group steadily evolved through selective recruiting, targeted client development, regional office expansion, and strategic acquisitions.

The firm completed the acquisitions of Stahlman Group, Inc. (2004) and Delphey-Gerdes Engineering (2010) to add professional architectural and engineering services into the firm’s existing blend of engineering competencies. These acquisitions formed a national practice for facility engineering, utility engineering, and construction management services. In 2011, Design Group acquired Cadence Technologies, Inc., an Atlanta-based engineering firm that specializes in process design solutions for food and beverage industries.

Cadence Technologies further accelerated Design Group’s organic growth initiatives in the area of process design services. Today, Design Group serves more than 200 clients across a diverse range of industries, including food, beverage, health and beauty, home products, pharmaceutical, and chemical, by way of 18 regional offices throughout the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. Recent expansion efforts include new offices in New York, Denver, and Washington State. The firm will open a second office in Chicago next month. As the firm continues to grow through a disciplined blend of organic growth and acquisitions, its leaders have refreshed its vision with the goal of expanding Design Group into a 1,000-person firm operating from 25 offices in key cities nationwide within the next five years.

“Throughout a challenging economic period the past two years, Design Group has maintained its focus on strategic business initiatives and a long-term vision for growth and value,” Wilhelm said. “We remain committed to fostering personal growth opportunities for all of our professionals, providing value to our clients and maintaining a business focus that offers a stable employment environment for our associates.” About Design Group Barry-Wehmiller Design Group, Inc. operates from 18 regional offices and provides a broad range of services, including packaging, process, facility design, software engineering, compliance and quality services, construction management services, and design/fabrication of electrical control systems. The firm’s stated mission is to provide “Total Operational Solutions for Industry”.
