Baumüller Offers Complete Automation Solution for Extruders

Baumüller Offers Complete Automation Solution for Extruders
Temperature controller added to product portfolio

Nuremberg. The automation expert Baumüller presents a complete solution for extrusion technology. Until recently, the portfolio focused on drives, control units and extended to operation and control cabinets. Baumüller has, however, now added a very important component: the existing portfolio is now rounded off with a new temperature controller that is controlled via CANopen.

The extruder is, of course, a part of Baumüller's all-in concept. The complete system, including the control cabinet, can be supplied from one hand. The temperature controller enhances the original system with a decisive component: following the integration of the standalone temperature controller into the automation concept, Baumüller now offers the complete solution from one hand. The controller can be fully integrated into the system via CANopen. The extruder is controlled and regulated via the tried and tested Drive-PLC from the b maXX series, the scalable and modular drive concept from Baumüller.

The Baumüller extruder is characterised, above all, by the direct drive technology that is employed. The gearless DST motors with torques of up to 13,500 Nm and low speeds of 100-300 rpm are practically maintenance-free. Technically sophisticated belt and toothed drives are no longer required. The utilisation of direct drive technology reduces the customers’ time and cost-intensive maintenance intervals to a minimum. Hence, the availability of the extrusion lines will increase significantly. The utilisation of water cooling paves the way for a very compact design in spite of the high power rating and the motors can therefore be easily integrated into the machine concept.

The "face" of the machine, the operating terminal, is equipped in line with customer requirements: the operating and visualisation range from Baumüller includes simple HMIs with 2 to 10 characters as well as touch panels and even extends to IPCs with a 15" screen.
