Bayer MaterialScience AG Standardizes on Matrikon's Alarm Management Solution

Matrikon Inc. (TSX:MTK), a leading provider of industrial plant intelligence solutions, today announced that Bayer MaterialScience AG, one of the world's largest producers of polymers and high performance plastics, has chosen ProcessGuard as its process control technology standard for alarm management at 40 sites across the globe.

Matrikon's alarm management solution provides the methodology and technology to systematically integrate and administer an effective alarm management strategy. The results include reducing the number of alarms, increased productivity and safe and reliable operation of industrial facilities.

"ProcessGuard's alarm performance indicators provide instant visibility to plant performance and will allow Bayer MaterialScience AG to benchmark and compare alarm performance across all plants around the world," said Dr. Klaus Schäfer, head of Technology Services, Bayer MaterialScience AG. "This will help us to focus on areas that experience high alarm loads, thus assisting in the identification of unwanted nuisance alarms, as well as those that present an opportunity to improve plant productivity and reliability. Ongoing monitoring of the performance indicators will focus individual sites as well as the whole organization on achieving continuous improvement."

"We are seeing a growing tendency in European process industries to address alarm management issues on a larger, more strategic scale," said Timo Klingenmeier, managing director of Matrikon Deutschland. "ProcessGuard provides Bayer MaterialScience AG with a solution that addresses plant performance, reliability and compliance issues while assisting with overall performance improvement."

To serve the growing German market, Matrikon is delivering a German version of ProcessGuard and Alarm MOCCA. In addition, Matrikon's global operations will provide round-the-clock support to Bayer MaterialScience AG facilities on three continents.

ProcessGuard's ability to connect to and collect information from a variety of control systems makes it easy to adopt as a corporate standard and enables performance comparison across the organization.
