Beckhoff announces AM3500 Series Servo Motors
MINNEAPOLIS, November 28, 2007 – Beckhoff Automation has extended its Drive Technology range with the introduction of the AM3500 series servo motors. These servo motors have a high moment of inertia, making them well suited for machine tool axes with stringent synchronism requirements. These motors can eliminate a gear box in high inertia applications such as rotary tables.

The motor flanges, connectors and shafts of the new AM3500 series are compatible with the tried and tested Beckhoff AM3000 motors. The new AM3500 models are available with flange sizes 3 to 6, torques between 1.9 and 15 Nm and rated speeds of 3,000 and 6,000 rpm. Resolvers or absolute encoders (single- or multi-turn) are available as a feedback system. The standard protection class is IP 64 with IP 65/67 available as an option. This motor series is CE-, UL- and CSA-listed.

Based on new material and manufacturing technologies, the AM3500 series has the same advanced features of the AM3000 series low-inertia servomotors, including compact size, which is achieved via pole wound stator winding.

The current trend in motor development is for smaller, more compact motors with less inertia. Increasing the inertia ratio between load and motor has a negative impact on control. In extreme cases, the mechanical system can become unstable. The inertia ratio can be optimized through suitable gearing, however, this reduces the maximum possible speed. Beckhoff has released the new AM3500 motor series in order to avoid the addition of gear boxes and reduced overall speed.

Beckhoff Automation provides advanced, open automation products based upon proven technologies so that customers can implement high performance control systems faster and at a lower overall cost than traditional PLC and motion control systems. Beckhoff’s “New Automation Technology” product range includes PC based control, industrial PCs, automation controllers, operator interface, I/O, servo drives and motors. With representation in more than 60 countries, Beckhoff is well positioned to provide global sales and service to its customers. Sales and service are handled directly, with no intermediaries involved to provide faster response and improved communications.
