Bosch Rexroth adds motion control PLC to robot systems
October 9, 2006 - Bosch Rexroth has added the new IndraMotion for Handling to its CMS Cartesian Motion System offering to make it easier than ever before to specify, install and control Cartesian robotics systems. This new combination CMS is designed to eliminate the learning curve associated with programming and commissioning most point-to-point and assembly applications.

The CMS with IndraMotion uses Rexroth’s ultra-fast L-40 and L-20 PLC-based motion controller, as well as the simple VCP 08.2 HMI controller interface to provide intuitive and simple controls for Cartesian gantries with up to three linear axes (X, Y, Z) and three rotary axes (A, B, C). The system includes all necessary hardware and software, with predefined motion function blocks to run pick-and-place and loading/unloading machinery.

Rexroth’s proven CMS combines Compact Modules with mounting brackets, servomotors, controllers, cables, cable management and other necessary components to form a complete, ready-to-install handling system with a variety of communication interfaces. The system is pre-parameterized, so it is ready to “plug and play” into the customer’s application thereby saving considerable time for installation and debugging. It can be ordered completely pre-assembled or as a ready-to-assemble kit.

Comprising up to three axes, the CMS is designed for payloads up to 25 kg, speeds up to 1.0 m/s, and acceleration rates up to 15 m/s². Depending on the chosen axis combination and size, the motion system can execute strokes up to 1000 mm in the X-axis, 700 mm in the Y-axis, and 800 mm in the Z-axis. With its range of motion the new system is ideal for pick-and-place applications in assembly cells and transfer stations, as well as for packaging and other handling applications.

Bosch Rexroth AG, part of the Bosch Group, achieved sales of approximately $5.7 billion (4.6 billion Euro) in 2005 with over 28,200 employees. Under the brand name of Rexroth the company offers all drive and control technologies, from mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics to electronics and associated service. Over 500,000 customers worldwide utilize Rexroth’s unique technological know-how to implement their innovative and future-oriented systems and machine concepts. The global player, represented in over 80 countries, is an extensive supplier of components and systems for industrial and factory automation and mobile applications.
