Braskem Petrochemical Company Standardizes on Matrikon's Alarm Management Solution

Edmonton, AB - April 18, 2006 Matrikon Inc. (TSX:MTK) today announced that Braskem S.A., the largest petrochemical company in Latin America, has chosen Matrikon's alarm management solution, ProcessGuard and Alarm MOCCA, as its corporate standard for alarm management at its 13 plants in Brazil.

Matrikon's alarm management solution provides the methodology and technology to systematically integrate and administer an effective alarm management strategy. The results include reducing the number of alarms to a manageable level, increasing productivity and ensuring safe and reliable operation of industrial facilities. These outcomes complement Braskem's aim of positioning among the best and most competitive petrochemical companies in the world through its Braskem+ program.

Another factor in Braskem's selection process was ProcessGuard and Alarm MOCCA's ability to work with any brand of distributed control system (DCS) and provide corporate level consolidation of the information such that the individual plants can be benchmarked against corporate goals. Today, there are fewer plant control engineers trying to fulfill more functions. Using technology to leverage existing assets and standardize corporate-wide is key to focusing people on the critical issues that impact plant performance and safety.
