Brunei Shell Petroleum Selects Honeywell to Automate its Offshore Platform

Honeywell Experion PKS System Integrates Safety Systems with Advanced Monitoring, Control to Reduce Costs

PHOENIX, March 3, 2003 -- Brunei Shell Petroleum has chosen Honeywell’s (NYSE: HON) Experion PKS(tm) Process Knowledge System™ for monitoring, control and safety shutdown operations at their Well Jacket-2 platform off the coast of Brunei, Darussalam. The Experion PKS system is used in industrial plants and mills to control, monitor and integrate complex processes.

Brunei Shell Petroleum expects that the implementation of the Experion PKS system will result in lower initial capital expenditures as well as lower ongoing operational costs.

“Honeywell has demonstrated that it has the products, solutions,
capabilities and resources to fulfill the project requirements,” said Leong Woon Choon, Project Manager for Brunei Shell. “We are convinced that Honeywell can execute and deliver the required solution for the project.”

The project will include FOUNDATION* fieldbus integration with Experion PKS, Honeywell’s Fail Safe Controller (FSC®) safety system and integrated historical, financial, operational and maintenance databases that will share information from multiple sites across Brunei Shell, using standard spreadsheets and reports. Honeywell Asset Manager PKS Predictive maintenance and diagnostics tools will make diagnostics and maintenance information from field devices and Experion PKS hardware devices easily available to Brunei Shell Petroleum - providing multiple maintenance and troubleshooting benefits.

The selection of FOUNDATION fieldbus over conventional I/O systems
provides added cost savings due to reduced equipment, system I/O and cable installation costs. Additional benefits include improved yield and increased productivity. FOUNDATION fieldbus provides integration and interoperability of instrumentation from a wide variety of suppliers.
