Beta Program Offers Participants Opportunity to Provide Input on CIMPortal TDI Product Development SEMICON West, San Francisco, CA - July 19, 2006 - Cimetrix announced the start of its CIMPortal TDI Beta Program. Tool Data Interface (TDI) is a specification adopted by certain Integrated Device Manufacturers (IDMs) in Japan that requires equipment suppliers to store historical data locally on the equipment and to provide local software applications to use this data to improve equipment quality. The TDI specification was developed and is supported by Semiconductor Leading Edge Technologies, Inc. (SELETE) and Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). Cimetrix has a strong presence in the Japanese market through its distributor, CIM, Inc., located in Yokohama, Japan. In cooperation with CIM, as well as several leading Japanese IDM's and equipment suppliers, Cimetrix has been developing its beta TDI product offering for over a year. The formal CIMPortal TDI Beta Program will run from July through September 2006. The Cimetrix TDI product is part of the award-winning CIMPortal product family, designed to support the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) Interface A standards, in addition to the TDI specification. The CIMPortal Interface A solution was released as version 1.0 in June 2006 after a two-year comprehensive beta program. The CIMPortal TDI solution is built upon proven CIMPortal technology, has already been integrated into an ion implanter and will be installed at one IDM in Japan this July. According to Dave Faulkner, executive vice president for Cimetrix, "Understanding the details of TDI was a challenging task and we are fortunate to have a good Japanese partner in CIM, as well as good customer relationships, which were critical to enable us to extend our CIMPortal product family to offer a TDI product. Interface A and TDI have unique differences. Interface A focuses on real-time data for IDM-level Equipment Engineering Systems (EES), while TDI is aimed at local storage of historical data. Even though there are substantial differences between these two, we believe that the underlining principles of high quality data collection are the same. We have used this similarity to create an innovative CIMPortal product family that the equipment supplier can effectively use for both Interface A and TDI." Cimetrix follows a disciplined software development lifecycle process that places a high value on the customer Beta Program. For new technologies, several beta rounds will be implemented to ensure a rich feature set to meet customer needs, as well as a robust, production proven architecture. For product extensions such as CIMPortal TDI, one beta round is typical, as exact customer requirements are gathered to fit the existing CIMPortal architecture. The CIMPortal TDI solution can be seen at the Cimetrix booth (Moscone Center, South Hall, Booth 1841) during SEMICON West.
