| Cognex Announces FireWire Acquistion Software for PC Vision Systems |
Natick, MA, May 17, 2005-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, today announced new software that allows direct connection of FireWire® (IEEE 1394) cameras to its PC vision systems. The Cognex FireWire implementation simplifies integration, expands acquisition options, and allows customers to cost-effectively achieve high quality digital images without using a frame grabber. "Cognex FireWire systems have several advantages over traditional FireWire implementations," said Marilyn Matz, Cognex Co-founder and Senior VP. "The FireWire camera drivers are built into our software to simplify integration for our customers. Cognex FireWire systems use the same application development software, identical vision tools, and proven acquisition engine as other Cognex PC vision systems, and we've optimized our FireWire implementation for the high speed typically required in machine vision applications." Cognex has integrated FireWire into its PC vision systems, maintaining its high standards for image acquisition, reliability and performance while providing customers the flexibility to choose from a wide range of FireWire cameras from AVT, Basler, Point Grey and others that adhere to the DCAM 1.3 specification. FireWire cameras can also be combined with any Cognex frame grabber system, providing additional acquisition flexibility. Cognex FireWire software is available now. Cognex Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and markets machine vision systems and machine vision sensors, or computers that can "see." Cognex is the world's leader in the machine vision industry, having shipped more than 250,000 vision systems, representing over $1.8 billion in cumulative revenue, since the company's founding in 1981. Cognex's Modular Vision Systems Division, headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts, specializes in machine vision systems which are used for automating the manufacture of a wide range of discrete items and for assuring their quality. Cognex's Surface Inspection Systems Division, headquartered in Alameda, California, specializes in machine vision systems which are used for inspecting the surfaces of products manufactured in a continuous fashion, such as metals, paper, and plastics. In addition to its corporate headquarters in Natick, Massachusetts, Cognex also has regional offices and distributors located throughout North America, Japan, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
