Deutschmann upgrades UNIGATE protocol converters
May 12, 2010 - UNIGATE CL-type CANopen gateways from Deutschmann Automation now also support LSS and Layer 2. Thanks to the Layer Setting Services which are now available, users can assign the node ID to the device via the Master – they do not need to use the coding switch integrated in the device any more. Supporting Layer 2, the devices are suitable for all CAN networks whether they use CANopen or other, proprietary protocols which have been developed for specific applications.

The script which converts the protocol of the terminal device in the gateway can easily be programmed using Deutschmann’s free-of-charge Windows tool Protocol Developer. It enables the easy adaptation of various applications and implementation of communication profiles such as DS 408.

Additionally, Deutschmann has implemented a software interface for the AutoSPy diagnosis tool on all UNIGATE CL-type devices. By accessing the script via the gateway’s debug interface, AutoSPy can record all incoming and outgoing signals, display variables, and analyze them. Long-term logging and integrated filter functions enable the identification even of short-term or rare errors.

UNIGATE CL-type protocol converters are available for all standard fieldbuses and Industrial Ethernet systems. They use the full transmission rate of the respective bus and support all speeds. Employing these devices, automation manufacturers minimize their development efforts with adapting their systems to the various protocols.
