London - November 1, 2007 - California-based Dust Networks has won the Amec Award for Innovation and Excellence in SMEs from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) at an awards ceremony in London.

Dust Networks developed a practical solution to remove barriers to reliable, battery-operated wireless sensor networking in harsh industrial manufacturing environments.

The company was recognized for its development of the Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP). TSMP is a foundational building block of WirelessHART , the processing industry's first standard for intelligent wireless sensor networking. Dust's standards-based WSN systems deliver wire-like reliability while offering the economics of wire-free sensor deployment in process monitoring and control applications.

The IChemE awards ceremony is designed to highlight cutting-edge innovation and excellence in chemical engineering and coincides with the Institution celebrating the 50th anniversary of receiving its Royal Charter status. The event was attended by over 400 chemical and process engineers and their guests at London’s Hilton Metropole hotel.

“Chemical and process engineers across a huge range of industry sectors are working hard to develop a cleaner, greener and more sustainable world for generations to come,” said David Brown, chief executive, Institution of Chemical Engineers. “Our awards, in this our 50th anniversary year, highlight some of the groundbreaking work that is going on across the globe in all types of organisations, from centres of academia, to SMEs and large global brands.”

Further information about the award winners can be found at www.icheme.org.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

About IChemE
IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) is the hub for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide. With a global membership of some 27,000, the Institution is at the heart of the process community, promoting competence and a commitment to best practice, advancing the discipline for the benefit of society, encouraging young people in science and engineering and supporting the professional development of its members.

About Dust Networks
Dust Networks, the leader in standards-based intelligent wireless sensor networking (WSN), provides ultra low-power, highly reliable systems to industrial automation vendors in a range markets. Dust Networks enables OEMs to offer monitoring and control solutions that provide unprecedented access to information from the physical world, resulting in improved operations, safer work environments, and increased competitive advantage. Dust Networks’ SmartMesh products combine revolutionary wireless networking capabilities with extremely low-power RF System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, providing OEMs with network-ready WSN solutions that are flexible and easy to integrate. Dust Networks partners with industry and standards groups such as ISA, the HART Foundation, and IETF to ensure the broad adoption of interoperable wireless sensor networking products.
