Rockwell's Emergency-Stop Push Buttons Earn TÜV Safety Certification
July 22, 2010 — Rockwell Automation earned TÜV certification for the B10d Functional Safety rating on all styles of Allen-Bradley emergency-stop push buttons. This safety certification allows users to take the certified safety product data and include these products in calculating the safety level of their entire control safety system. This helps improve worker safety because designers have greater insight into when components, like e-stop push buttons, will need to be replaced or repaired – to help ensure control safety system reliability.

E-stop push buttons are a critical component for automation systems – they are used to cease motion to help prevent injury to workers or damage to machinery. For example, in an emergency that might escalate into a hazardous situation, an operator would press the e-stop button to stop the machine or equipment, preventing further risk to the worker or the system.

The B10d rating further validates the market leadership position of the Allen-Bradley push button family, which the industry already recognizes for ingress protection sealing technology, low-voltage
switching capability and excellent reliability. While many companies self-certify for this safety rating, the Allen-Bradley e-stop buttons were rigorously tested with evaluation, verification and confirmation by third-party TÜV Rheinland, a leading international service group documenting the safety and quality of products, systems and services.

“By achieving third-party validation from a globally recognized standards body like TÜV, Rockwell Automation continues to reinforce its position as the global market leader in machine and process safety,” said Paul Gieschen, market development director, Rockwell Automation. “We are committed to helping improve the overall functional safety of automation systems to help better protect workers, improve machine performance and ultimately increase productivity for our customers.”

The TÜV-certified e-stop push buttons are available now. The B10d rating certification complements the comprehensive family of e-stop push buttons, which includes the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 800F 22.5 mm and Allen-Bradley Bulletin 800T/H 30.5 mm.
