Single universal tool helps technicians by supporting all HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices from all suppliers AUSTIN, TEXAS (February 15, 2007) Emerson Process Management announces that the 375 Field Communicator has achieved a major landmark in its role as the de facto standard handheld interface for field instruments and valves. The 375 enables configuration, calibration and troubleshooting of more than 1000 HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices from 124 manufacturers, and is a key component of PlantWeb® architecture. The 375 is the only intrinsically safe handheld communicator that supports all HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices from all suppliers. Multi-vendor device support is a primary requirement of process manufacturing users. Availability of a single universal tool simplifies the work, and minimizes the equipment required by field technicians who are responsible for installing and maintaining the devices in their plant. Universal device support is achieved in the 375 Field Communicator using the Electronic Device Description Language, a standard endorsed by both the HART Communication and Fieldbus Foundations. Individual Device Descriptions (DDs) developed and tested by manufacturers for their respective devices are included with every 375 Field Communicator. As new DDs become available from manufacturers, they may be downloaded from the Internet directly by 375 users. This Easy Upgrade feature enables users to easily maintain support in their 375 for all of the instruments and valves in their plants. Craig Llewellyn, president of the Asset Optimization Division of Emerson Process Management explained the significance of this milestone: Our customers have come to expect support for all instruments and valves in our host products. Emerson has invested significant resources to expand this support to include all HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices. Combined with worldwide intrinsic safety approvals, universal device support provides our customers with a single tool to streamline their work with any device, anywhere in the plant.
