Ethernet Direct obtains UL certification for Ethernet switches
July 27, 2009 - Ethernet Direct announced that Husky series industrial Ethernet switches and Retriever series industrial media converters comply with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Class 1 Division 2 approvals. Class 1 Division 2 is required in operations involving hazardous environments. Typical industry applications include oil & gas, mining & aggregates, military, defense, petrochemical industry applications and more. This new certification proves that Ethernet Direct is committed to providing truly rugged design and industrial rated products for mission critical applications.

Reliability and environmental suitability are key consideration in environments with the presence of gas, fog, liquid and other flammable substances. In order to offer a complete solution, Ethernet Direct offers unmanaged to managed Ethernet devices, from Ethernet to Gigabit deployment.

Hazardous environments are defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC). These areas can be typically exposed to fire or explosion hazards may exist due to flammable gases or vapor, flammable liquids, combustible dust, or ignitable substances. Electronic products must meet certain requirements and obtain special certifications in order to be used in these environments. By acquiring Underwriters Laboratories’ (UL) certification for Class 1 Division 2 applications, selected Ethernet Direct Industrial switches and Industrial media converters are now UL/cUL approved to be used in these types of hazardous locations.
