| Fieldbus Foundation Announces Updated Fieldbus System Engineering Guide |
New technical document covers broader scope of fieldbus technology HOUSTON, Texas, Oct. 5, 2004 The Fieldbus Foundation, conducting a press briefing at the ISA EXPO 2004 Exhibition & Conference in Houston, Texas, today announced the release of its updated FOUNDATION fieldbus System Engineering Guide (AG-181, Rev. 2.0). The revised document describes the design, specification, installation, configuration, commissioning and maintenance of FOUNDATION fieldbus-based control systems, including use of the technology in Intrinsically Safe (IS) applications. Prepared under the direction of the Fieldbus Foundation's End User Advisory Council (EUAC), which is comprised of representatives from leading controls and instrumentation end users around the world, the FOUNDATION fieldbus System Engineering Guide outlines standard industry practices for FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 projects. According to Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney, the FOUNDATION fieldbus System Engineering Guide has been updated to meet the needs end users, system integrators and engineering firms involved in implementing FOUNDATION fieldbus in demanding, mission-critical applications. This includes environments with IS requirements. Mr. Timoney said, "Our new System Engineering Guide provides the most complete information to date about fieldbus-based control systems, including solutions for intrinsic safety. This practical, hands-on guide is an essential tool for anyone seeking a broader understanding of the FOUNDATION fieldbus architecture. It is ideal for all members of the project team, including engineering, maintenance personnel and operations staff." The FOUNDATION fieldbus System Engineering Guide is separated into sections covering different aspects of the fieldbus project "lifecycle." Specific topics include: Fieldbus Definitions, Field Device Requirements, Ancillary Device Requirements, Network/Segment Design, Host System Requirements, Software Configuration, Documentation, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Installation. New additions to the System Engineering Guide include: IS Installations, Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept (FISCO) Installations, Fieldbus Non-Incendive Concept (FNICO) Installations, and Hot Cut-over. To obtain the FOUNDATION fieldbus System Engineering Guide (Document Reference No. AG-181, Rev. 2.0), visit the Fieldbus Foundation's web site at www.fieldbus.org. The document can be downloaded in PDF format. About the Fieldbus Foundation The Fieldbus Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation consisting of nearly 350 leading process and manufacturing automation companies worldwide whose major purpose is to provide an open and neutral environment for the development of a single, international, interoperable fieldbus. In this environment, end users, manufacturers, universities and research organizations are working together to develop the technology, provide development tools, support and training, coordinate field trials and demonstrations, and enable product interoperability.
