FKI Logistex News
| FKI Logistex Wins $20M Contract From Norway Post |
(Frederick, MD: November 28, 2005) FKI Logistex®, a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, announces that it has won a $20 million (17 million euro) contract from Norway Post (www.posten.no) to supply seven of its new Multi-Sorter systems. The new systems are for Norway Post operations in Vestfold, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, and Oslo. FKI Logistex is the first company in the material handling industry to supply this type of system. The FKI Logistex Multi-Sorter design concept is markedly different from other mail sortation solutions because it allows for the simultaneous sorting of flats, letters, packages and irregular mail fed from a number of different induction sources. Other systems require multiple sorters to perform these separate tasks. The FKI Logistex Multi-Sorter design joins an electrically driven cross-belt sorter with high-capacity flat/letter feeders and automatic package/parcel induction units. The systems sort to totes, containers, unit load device (ULD) roller containers, and bags, and have a capacity of more than 14,400 items/hour. FKI Logistex Multi-Sorters are designed to simultaneously handle flats, packages and bundles fed by a variety of load carriers and infeed stations. Multi-Sorter control and information systems provide image capture and read barcode data. "FKI Logistex looks forward to working with Norway Post as the first postal service in the world to sign on to this innovative, cost-saving concept," says Henrik Mortensen, director, Post and Parcel, FKI Logistex Europe. "We are pleased to have been chosen by Norway Post for this project, and are finding that many other postal organizations are interested in Multi-Sorter applications." The Multi-Sorter design offers efficiencies to both small and large postal agencies and facilities. On one hand, Multi-Sorters handle the high volumes of unusually shaped or sized mail (irregular mail) found in large facilities that can justify automation. Irregular mail can include sample envelopes, blister packets, soft packets in odd shapes or without firm edges, cylinders, and small packets. Multi-Sorters also solve many problems for smaller mail centers. In these smaller facilities, where mail volumes are limited, it is easier to cost-justify the investment in one Multi-Sorter as opposed to multiple conventional letter, flat or parcel sorters. FKI Logistex begins the Norway Post project in Vestfold in early 2006. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2008.
