Magnum 6K25 Offers Highly Configurable Managed Switch with Built-in Fiber to Support Larger Industrial Applications April 29, 2002, Fremont, Calif. GarrettCom Inc.s new Magnum 6K25 Managed Fiber Switch offers a new level of configurability for industrial Ethernet LAN applications such as plantwide or area control. Designed to offer up to 24 built-in fiber ports with optional 1Gb fiber uplink capability, the Magnum 6K25 allows industrial users to take advantage of fibers inherent noise immunity and extended distance support without the need for expensive, space-consuming media converters. The Magnum 6K25 Managed Fiber Switch comes with Managed Networks Software (MNS) that provides basic switch management, monitoring, and security. The Magnum 6K25 Switch is part of a broad family line of off-the-shelf switches and hubs designed with the extended temperature range, DC or AC power, and fiber built-in ports that support industrial requirements. The Magnum 6K25 Switch offers the same modular convenience as other GarrettCom products in the companys Magnum Plantwide LAN line of industrial products targeted for IT and large LAN applications. It uses the new small form factor (SFF) fiber ports to provide 100 Mb fiber at the same port density as RJ-45 connectors. Unlike other managed switches available with industrial specifications, the Magnum 6K25 offers per-port configurability for RJ-45 connectors and 10 Mb fiber as well as the full range of 100 Mb fiber connectors: ST, SC, MTRJ, and LC. The Magnum 6K25 Managed Fiber Switch offers MNS for a complete range of management services to support industrial installations, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Remote Monitoring (RMON), port mirroring for network troubleshooting, password and port security for intruder protection, and SNTP network timekeeping. The Magnum 6K25 Switch with MNS offers easy integration into existing networks. Large 8 MB packet buffers offer high performance, even with unbalanced loads. Store-and-forward switching filters all faulty packets to maximize throughput during peak traffic loads. Like all Magnum Plantwide LAN Ethernet products, the Magnum 6K25 Switch features extended operating temperature range, rack-mounting for IT centers, conformal coating to protect circuitry from exposure to high humidity and dust, high reliability, and high availability with a choice of AC worldwide power, and dual-source 125 VDC, 24 VDC, or -48 VDC power.
