Green Hills Software adds PCI Mezzanine card for real-time tracing and software debugging

SANTA BARBARA, CA - July 18, 2006— Green Hills Software announced TraceEdge-PMC, another technology that helps bring TimeMachine debugger to the desktop of every device software engineer. This new collection technology unlocks the benefits of Green Hills’ revolutionary TimeMachine tool suite for developers using processors without built-in trace support by using an available PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) slot to collect TimeMachine data. TraceEdge-PMC joins the family of TimeMachine collection options, which includes real-time trace ports, standard PCI slots, available memory on a target board, and processor local buses.

“Because most processors on compact PCI- or VME-based systems lack a real-time trace port, some device software developers have been unable to take advantage of the advanced debugging capabilities of TimeMachine. Fortunately, many of these systems have PMC slots and TraceEdge-PMC enables users of these systems to find every bug, optimize with ease and test with confidence using TimeMachine,” commented David Kleidermacher, chief technology officer of Green Hills Software.

TimeMachine enables developers to visualize and replay their software’s execution, allowing bugs and inefficiencies to be easily and quickly eliminated, thereby resulting in higher product reliability and faster time-to-market. TraceEdge-PMC, like all other TraceEdge products, uses a patent-pending mechanism that enables TimeMachine visibility without requiring recompilation of the application.

TraceEdge-PMC Data Collection
TraceEdge-PMC uses an adapter that connects to a free PMC slot and outputs TimeMachine data to a Green Hills SuperTrace probe, which collects up to 1 GB of data and uploads it to the developer’s workstation. The Green Hills INTEGRITY real time operating system comes bundled with the PCI device drivers required to interface with the TraceEdge-PMC adapter.

Availability
TraceEdge-PMC is available today for all PowerPC processors. In-Memory TimeMachine, TraceEdge-PCI and TraceEdge-BUS are currently shipping for all PowerPC and MIPS processors. SuperTrace probe is also available for a wide range of processors with on-chip trace capability including ARM, PowerPC, MIPS, and V850. Support for additional processors is planned.
