HANNOVER MESSE 2007, 16 to 20 April

In addition to the comprehensive world market offering being presented by exhibitors, Industrial Automation is joining forces with Motion, Drive & Automation (MDA) and Digital Factory at HANNOVER MESSE to provide practical and future-focused ideas in a number of exciting live presentations and forums. "This cooperation highlights the unique selling point of HANNOVER MESSE. Our objective is to be the first trade fair to address hot topics and have experts provide live demonstrations," explains Sepp D. Heckmann, Chairman of the Managing Board of Deutsche Messe. The wide range of products on offer and the synergy effects between the individual industries turn exhibitors into the customers of other exhibitors.

Thinking in systems
Halls 16 and 17 are certainly living up to the HANNOVER MESSE aspiration to "Get New Technology First." The future is very much a part of the high-tech production installations being set up jointly here by exhibitors and industry users. "Hannover is the only trade show where we, as automation technology manufacturers, can present our products and innovations in the overall context of the relevant solutions," stresses Roland Bent, Managing Director of Phoenix Contact, the fourth largest exhibitor at HANNOVER MESSE.

Live prototype demonstrations at Application Park
The real automation highlight this year is the new Application Park, a project run jointly by the VDMA (German Engineering Federation) and Deutsche Messe. At this show within a show, mechanical engineers, robot manufacturers and automation service providers will be showcasing complete production solutions. Siemens, VW and Phoenix Contact will be joining forces with well-known partners to demonstrate how customer-focused production can be combined with very short delivery times. In the first case, a production buffer warehouse currently being trialed at VW, modules are pre-assembled as required by the specific customer order. Visitors can indicate their individual requirements regarding vehicle type and power train on a touchscreen - and in no time at all the required vehicle will be ready.

In the second case, visitors can order their own mugs on the PC at a production installation that Phoenix Contact is setting up with eleven industry partners and collect it at the delivery point - personalized with their name and packaged. The end-to-end Ethernet architecture incorporating RFID chips and the link to SAP demonstrated by this second example from the Application Park will provide interesting ideas for visitors and their production.

Information on hot topics from further special presentations
This program will be complemented by further special events in the vicinity of the Application Park. The Robotics Academy (Hall 16) will offer visitors robot training on various systems and in Hall 17 they will be able to obtain specific advice on their companies. Decision makers from the most diverse of sectors - from mechanical engineering to semi-luxury goods - will be able to discover the latest production automation trends at the Factory Automation Forum.

The Safety & Security Competence Center will provide compactly structured information on making production installations safe and secure. Last but not least, industry and the Lower Saxony State Office for the Protection of the Constitution will be providing details about technologies and other resources to protect against product piracy. The Industrial Identification center will offer information on further innovative identification technologies besides RFID, and the special category Wireless Automation will shed light on the world of wireless communication in production.

A large number of companies have announced new Industrial Ethernet products, including world market leaders such as Hirschmann Automation and Control. The significant progress in networking automation and IT will also be demonstrated in the Industrial Ethernet Competence Center in Hall 16.

At the Automation IT joint pavilion initiated by Harting and Cisco, also in Hall 16, there will be a live demonstration proving that Ethernet works as a universal network for all applications and equipment classes. Video, telephone, automation and many other applications will be illustrated by a group of exhibitors.

In the field of process automation, the Hygienic Design & Cleanroom Technology Competence Center in Hall 7 will be providing live presentations on cleanroom technology and automation components that comply with hygiene standards. This will appeal above all to mechanical engineers from the food industry.

Never before has HANNOVER MESSE offered as much practical know-how as this year. Sepp D. Heckmann justified this level of commitment by explaining, "We are looking to whet the appetites of companies and management to get them to invest in automation. We can only succeed if we ourselves are prepared to identify trends and demonstrate them in a concrete and exciting way."
