Honeywell Introduces New HFD3023 Fiber Optic Detector Series with 5Mb Operations, TTL Interface

Honeywell Introduces New HFD3023 Fiber Optic Detector Series with 5Mb Operations, TTL Interface
FREEPORT, Ill., March 21, 2005 — Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today introduced the HFD3023 line of fiber optic detectors. Suited for many demanding, high-performance applications, the detectors are designed for use in short-distance 850 nm fiber optic systems. Principal applications for the HFD3023 are expected to include data communications and controls.
The HFD3023 line converts fiber optic signals to TTL (transistor-transistor logic) digital outputs, enabling a direct interface to TTL circuitry. The detectors’ industry standard footprints and single 5Vdc supply requirement simplify application design and the hermetic TO46 package provides enhanced noise immunity for reliable communication. Customized solutions are available to help solve customer-specific needs.
The introduction of the HFD3023 line broadens Honeywell Sensing & Control’s electronic sensing product portfolio, giving customers more solutions. Expected applications for the HFD3023 line include packaging and converting systems, military vehicles, closed-circuit television systems, industrial sensing, aerospace, oil and gas, smart civil structures and food processing machines.
“The HFD3023 receivers contain a monolithic IC with an integral photodiode and amplification circuit and an open collector Schottky output,” said Ian Anderson, product support manager. “The output allows it to be directly interfaced with standard TTL circuits, which can result in a savings in interface electronic components.”

The receiver converts the optical signal in a point-to-point data communications fiber optic link to a TTL output. Its 0.006 in. photodiode with a 0.024 microlens (to enhance the optics) is mechanically centered within the T046 package.
