June 29, 2009 - HPIC acquired Turbine Generator Control Specialist (TGCS), a company specializing in repairs, modifications, control systems, and evaluations of turbines. TGCS is headquartered in Verona, Virginia and has provided consulting services to utility and operating companies for over 21 years. As part of the acquisition, TGCS services are now available exclusively through HPI. TGCS, in turn, will leverage the global HPI client base in the energy and utilities markets. Jim Vines, President and CEO of TGCS, will lead the HPI Mechanical Group and train HPI engineers in diagnostics and maintenance on older turbines.

“The addition of TGCS is an important addition to our business as it expands the depth and breadth of the HPI Mechanical Group,” says Hal Pontez, President and CEO of HPI. “The addition of the TGCS staff nicely complements and adds deeply experienced consulting capacity to our rapidly growing mechanical services business. We pride ourselves in staffing our project teams with experienced professionals and knew that the capabilities of TGCS would be strategic to our business.”

“I have worked with many mechanical services companies and decided to join HPI when I saw they had the best control engineers and quality of service,” says Vines. “Hal provided us with the perfect platform to offer customers a complete solution. The expanded HPI Mechanical Group can offer operating companies and utilities a complete solution, from initial diagnostics to repair, maintenance and control upgrades. Our extensive experience on Westinghouse, General Electric, Pratt and Whitney, and other gas turbines gives the combined companies the ability to service any turbine system that may be encountered in the field. I have worked with turbine systems for 40 years and am gratified to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and work processes with the outstanding HPI team of mechanical specialists.”

About HPI
HPI remains a technological leader in turbine solutions including retrofit control, mechanical inspection/overhaul, turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction of power plants. HPI provides unique solutions to meet specific customer requirements, utilizing in-house talent experienced in project management, engineering, and design, while improving overall plant reliability and safety. Founded in 2002, many of the engineers and managers of HPI received their start in the industry from their work at Hawker Siddeley Dynamics Engineering. HPI has expanded its capabilities from stand-alone turbomachinery control to complete balance of plant systems. In 2005, HPI expanded its Mechanical Group to offer non-destructive testing and mechanical turbine overhaul services, which enables the company to offer a full lifecycle of services, from initial FEED studies to on-going maintenance of systems in the field.
