Iluka Resources Selects Matrikon™ for Plant Performance Measurement System

Edmonton, Canada & Perth, Australia – March 3, 2005 - Matrikon Inc. (TSX:MTK) today announced that it has signed a contract with Iluka Resources Limited, a leader in global titanium and zircon production and processing, to deliver a plant performance measurement system (PPMS) across thirteen mineral processing plants in Western Australia.

PPMS will provide a total solution to monitor and increase the performance of Iluka’s plants. The integration uses ProcessMORe™ to track downtime and maximize production and provides a methodology for improving equipment availability, allocating maintenance resources and targeting priority problems. The solution also uses ProcessNet™ to integrate information from multiple data sources, provide context and analysis and visually present the right information to the right people at the right time. ProcessMORe and ProcessNet form part of Matrikon’s ProcessSuite™. Matrikon’s OPC Suite is also being used to provide connectivity between a disparate range of control systems.

"Matrikon was chosen because of their experience and knowledge of the mining industry and their technical capability to deliver a performance measurement system that is functionally aligned with the company's objectives," stated Glenn Keating, Technical System Manager, from Iluka. Glenn Ingram, Manager Maintenance Reliability, added that "The software will provide our reliability engineering teams with the ability to retrieve, monitor, and analyse data from multiple plants and locations in a consistent manner to achieve their desired results."

“The combination of data visualization, decision support and real-time optimization will enable Iluka to make better, faster decisions on issues impacting the health and performance of plant operations. The result is a plant intelligence solution that will enhance Illuka’s ability to produce quality product, to reduce maintenance costs and to improve equipment uptime,” commented Sam Crisafulli, Managing Director for Matrikon Pty Limited.
