  • Offers Ethernet as standard configuration, not as expensive option
  • Supports all printer command languages and Unicode for global font support
  • Ideal for warehouse and store operations, work-in-progress and parcel-tracking applications

EVERETT, Wash., April 18, 2006 - In the past, companies that have wanted to purchase value-priced printers sacrificed ruggedness and performance to pay a lower cost. Intermec's feature-rich new EasyCoder® PD41 changes that. The PD41 bar code printer, housed in a rugged metal case, makes best-in-class performance and versatility for transportation and logistics, light industrial and retail applications affordable for all.

"The PD41fits an emerging sweet spot in the thermal bar code printer market as users are looking for more value from their printer investments," said David Krebs, mobile and wireless director for Venture Development Corporation, an independent technology market research and strategy consulting firm. "The PD41 combines rugged design and advanced functionality at a mid-range to entry-class price point."

Because of its affordable price, the PD41 allows companies to place printers everywhere on-demand label application is needed. It can produce variable-data labels continuously at 150 mm/s (6 ips), outperforming any other printer in its class. It can take industry-standard 200 mm (8-inch) rolls of labels and 450 meter (18,000 inches) of ribbon, reducing printer downtime. Its open and accessible design makes media loading quick and easy, and its printhead can easily be replaced without using any tools.

The PD41 offers high-speed, multi-channel Ethernet as a standard configuration, in addition to serial, parallel and USB connectivity. It also offers many Smart Printing(TM) features normally found only in high-performance printers.

With support for Unicode, the PD41 becomes a universal printer with the ability to print multiple languages and a wide variety of fonts, including non-Latin. It also supports all major printer command languages for seamless integration into any enterprise.

The PD41 supports Intermec's SmartSystems(TM), the ADC industry's most comprehensive system for complete device management. With SmartSystems, installation, routine maintenance or application software updates, security adjustments and device settings can be performed automatically and managed remotely, dramatically reducing field downtime and increasing efficiency.

The EasyCoder PD41 is available now in North America and Europe. It will be available in the rest of the world later this quarter.
