| Intermec Wins IBM PartnerWorld Beacon Award for Best Wireless Mobility Solution |
EVERETT, Wash., March 8, 2006 - Intermec Inc. has been named winner of the Best Wireless Mobility Solution award in the annual IBM PartnerWorld Beacon Awards competition, which honors IBM Business Partners for their innovation, customer satisfaction and outstanding achievements in providing on-demand business solutions. Intermec's IF5 RFID reader, which is being used in the METRO Group Future Store in Rheinberg, Germany, is the first production-scale integration of IBM's WebSphere RFID Device Infrastructure software on an RFID reader. This potent combination of hardware and software provides early data filtering, to minimize network overload, correlate RFID events and integrate RFID event data with enterprise applications. The Intermec IF5 system is helping METRO Group achieve just-in-time inventory delivery, reduced inventory costs, more accurate recording of data and fewer "out of stock" and "out of shelf" products for consumers. METRO Group plans a rollout of the RFID solution for selected sales divisions with more than 100 stores and distribution centers by September 2006.
