Invensys Operations Management News
| Invensys Instrumentation Helps European Petrochemical Plant Achieve Production Record |
FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA November 28, 2005 The 328-hectacre HIP-Petrohemija petrochemical complex located in the industrial zones of Panèevo and Elemir north east of Belgrade in Serbia Montenegro produces about one million tons per year (t/y) of petrochemicals. One of the company's key products is high density polyethylene (HDPE). However, the 75,000 t/y HDPE plant was making use of old, pneumatic instrumentation which required expensive and often obsolete spare parts. As a result, maintenance had also become a major issue. In an effort to reduce maintenance costs and increase staff efficiency, the plants operators turned to Invensys Process Systems in Austria to provide a solution. Invensys implemented a Foxboro I/A Series automation system with the latest fieldbus (I/O) modules plus FDT-based field device support tools. The most important control functions, including the emergency shutdown system, use Triconex triple modular redundant (TMR) technology. At the field level, Foxboro HART-based intelligent transmitters were used throughout the HDPE plant. Invensys Process Systems also developed programs, such as Historian Messages Viewer and Top Alarm, specificially for this customer. "During the first 100 days of operation we have only had to make one intervention on instrument equipment. And with the new flow measurement technology, we have also improved energy consumption," said Paun Milovanovic, Assistant Manager in the plant's instrument department. "In addition, we had no problems during start up, with operators easily mastering the new production controls. As a result, in October we set a new monthly production record of 7000 tonnes of HDPE," he added. About Invensys Process Systems Invensys Process Systems, a business unit of Invensys plc, provides products, services and solutions that enable todays industrial process plants to monitor, manage, and improve the performance of their manufacturing assets. In addition to its rapidly expanding Global Solutions group, Invensys Process Systems includes industry-leading brands such as Foxboro, Triconex, SimSci-Esscor, Wonderware, and Avantis, whose products are installed in more than 100,000 plants across the world. These range from small hybrid and batch plants to the worlds largest upstream projects, refineries, gas plants, petrochemicals plants, power plants, and pulp and paper mills. The Invensys Group (www.invensys.com) is made up of five businesses: Process Systems, APV, Eurotherm, Rail Systems and Controls.
