Research Triangle Park, NC (11 March 2008) - The deadline for abstract submissions for this year's ISA EXPO Technical Conference is right around the corner. Abstracts will be accepted until 11 April for paper, panel, and tutorial sessions.

ISA EXPO 2008 Conference will feature six Exchange Conference Tracks centered on key issues facing the automation and control market. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss best practices, lessons learned, and potential solutions to specific automation problems as part of the conference's technology exchange format.

Abstracts will be accepted for the following Exchange Conference Tracks: Security Technology, Process Automation Technology, Environmental and Quality Control Technology, and Wireless and Networking Technology. The 2008 Safety Technology and Enterprise Integration Technology Tracks, which complete the roundup of exchanges, are complete and are no longer accepting abstracts. An additional bonus track, Aerospace Technology Applications, is also open for abstract submission.

The security exchange will focus on protecting manufacturing automation and control systems' computer environments. Sessions will explore the activities of the ISA99 Manufacturing and Control Systems Security committee and the ISA100 Wireless Systems for Automation committee, the regulatory environment, OMAC and Microsoft-related industrial applications, OPC, security risk analysis, cyber security, and more.

The wireless and networking exchange sessions will cover a wide variety of technologies, including SCADA, signal compatibility, wireless, cyber security, fieldbuses, industrial Ethernet, safety buses, EDDL network selection, HART Commissioning and Diagnostics, end user applications of wireless technology, and the ISA100 wireless standards activities.

The process automation exchange focuses on designating instruments and instrumentation systems used for measurement and control. Sessions will cover flow measurement, model predictive control, batch applications, advanced regulatory control, effective use of data and reporting, predicting failure, customer selection processes, applications in discrete manufacturing industries, and more.

The safety exchange will help attendees avoid the headline-grabbing disasters plaguing the industry today. Sessions will focus on topics like SIS (safety-instrumented systems), hazardous location, alarms, safety integrity level (SIL) selection, and boiler controls safety themes. Attendees will also learn about electrical equipment for hazardous locations, instrument signals and alarms, and ISA84 Standards for Use in Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals.

The environmental and quality control exchange encompasses important developments in the power, chemical and substance analysis, pharmaceutical, and water industries. Fossil power and nuclear power plant standards will be topics for discussion, along with pipe corrosion monitoring, chemical monitoring, online process analysis, instrument reliability, and energy management.

The enterprise integration exchange will focus on opening and improving existing operations, integrating new hardware and software, and optimizing asset management programs. Sessions will focus on control system integration, maintenance management to leverage preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment recording and tracking, replacement parts inventory, and maintenance labor scheduling with the goal of optimizing asset use.

The bonus track, Aerospace Technology Applications, will cover micro and nanotechnology aerospace applications and aerospace instrumentation.

Specific topics in each exchange area are listed in the official call for papers, which can be found online at www.isa.org/isaexpo2008.
