ITT releases multipin connectors for coax, fiber, HV and pneumatics
Versatile multipin connectors simplify receptacle design and inventory

SANTA ANA, Calif. – October 10, 2006 – ITT, Electronic Components’ versatile VEAM CIR Series connectors can function as electrical, optical or pneumatic connectors, providing design engineers with the ability to simplify receptacle design processes and inventory. The VEAM CIR connector is also available in high voltage, twin or tri-axial, hermetic and EMC versions.

Designed originally for the hostile environment of mass transit applications, CIR connectors are also suitable for use in military, commercial, medical, geophysical, entertainment, nuclear and aerospace applications. The design parameters were based on MIL-C-5015, however, its unique positive lock and quick disconnect coupling surpasses the environmental requirements of this military specification. The CIR design has been adopted by NATO as the standard connector for ground fighting vehicles, and is used extensively in U.S. and European military programs.

Coaxial CIR connectors accept most popular RG cables. Fiber styles are available with single- or multiple-fiber termini. Devices can include a range of insert/grommet materials to provide superior resistance to fuel oils, solvents and elevated temperatures; alternatively they can be supplied with glass to metal hermetic seals in lieu of elastomeric inserts.

Other VEAM CIR connector configurations include high voltage; twin- or tri-axial with size 4 or 8 contacts; and RFI/EMI, in which grounding fingers on plug connectors provide superior 360º plug-to-receptacle shield integrity. Filtered devices, which incorporate tubular or planar filter networks, are available as well.

CIR connectors have also been designed for pneumatic operation. Various insert arrangements with size 4, 8 or 12 cavities accept pneumatic contacts to pass liquid or air, at pressures of up to 110psi. Flow valves are also available.

Finally, CIR connectors are available with various thermocouple material contacts including; chromel, alumel, copper, constantan and iron.
