ITT’s new connector features simplified internal wiring for servomotors
Small motor connector is low profile, cost-effective and easy to install…

ITT’S CM3 connector features simplified internal wiring to enable, less bulky installation

SANTA ANA, Calif. – August 17, 2006 – ITT, Electronic Components’ new CM3™ connector for small and medium servomotors has simplified internal wiring and replaces two bulkier conventional circular connectors, reducing mating to servomotors to four steps. The CM3 connector has a low profile ideal for space-sensitive applications, significantly lower installation cost and is 50 percent smaller and lighter than conventional circular connector designs.

The CM3 connector is completely sealed and shielded for high reliability and its simple harnessing reduces assembly and installation time in motor applications. Designed for motors with a flange size of 100mm by 100mm or less, the CM3 series connectors provide a high degree of vibration and shock resistance. The connectors feature IP67 sealing, a housing that contains a single power insulator and three feedback insulators, each with six signal contacts, separated by metal shielded walls, two sealed entries for power and feedback cables and a first-make/last-break power ground contact electrically linked to the shell.

The CM3 connector meets all requirements for DIN EN61984 safety compliance and has a 48V signal rating, operating voltage of up to 630V, and current ratings of 2A for signal and 18A for power. A zinc die cast shell, Fluor rubber sealing parts, high temperature insulator material and high quality contacts ensure a rugged, reliable design.

Servomotor applications enhanced by the CM3 connector include machine tools, packaging, factory automation, material handling, printing, food packaging, assembly lines, motion control, marking and labeling, robotics, production machines and laser trimming systems. ITT is currently developing larger and smaller versions of the Cm3 connectors to serve a wider range of servomotors on the market.

For quantities of 10,000 pieces or more, pricing is typically $10-15 per unit. The CM3 is also available with high-vibration resistant socket contacts in unit prices ranging from $15-20 for similar volumes. Lead times start at three weeks.
