KUKA Robotics Donates $1.5 Million to College of Computing at Georgia Tech

Gift Endows the KUKA Chair of Robotics to be Held by International Robotics Expert Henrik Christensen

Clinton Township, Michigan — April 5, 2006 – KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced it has donated $1.5 million to the College of Computing at Georgia Tech. The gift endows the KUKA Chair of Robotics to be held by international robotics expert Dr. Henrik Christensen. Also donated is a KUKA KR 15SL stainless steel robot to be used to develop automation solutions for various industries including the poultry and fruit industries.

Imlay Jr. Dean of the College of Computing at Georgia Tech. “KUKA Robotics’ is known for technologies that are particularly applicable to the goals of the college’s focus on personal and social robotics.”

The donated KUKA KR 15 SL robot is a six-axis articulated robot made of stainless steel. The use of stainless steel and the robot’s high IP rating makes it suitable for all applications with stringent requirements for hygiene, sterility and absence of particles such as required in the food and beverage or medical industries.
