KUKA Robotics Corporation News
| KUKA Robotics Selected by AIDCO International to Provide Robots for Palletizing Logistics System |
Clinton Township, Michigan November 2005 KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced AIDCO International of Adrian, Michigan, has selected KUKA Robotics to provide robots for its new Palligistics system an intelligent palletizing logistics work cell concept for creating mixed product or build to order pallets. Customers are ordering smaller quantities of a variety of products in order to keep inventory costs low and AIDCOs Palligistics system with the KUKA KR 240 robot gives the manufacturers the ability to custom fill those orders with mixed pallets, said Joe Campbell, director of strategic alliances for KUKA Robotics Corporation. As manufacturers adapt to their customers needs mixed load pallet building emerges as one of the most efficient technologies companies can embrace. Having the capability to accept and fulfill customers orders is a necessity that manufacturers and distributors can no longer afford to ignore, said Jeff Hadley, vice president of Engineering Technology for AIDCO International. With this new system they will not only have that capability but improve the performance and efficiency of their operations. KUKAs KR 240 unique work envelope enables this 6-axis robot to be used in homogenous & mixed palletizing, as well as high-speed conveyor-tracking material handling applications. AIDCOs Palligistics system uses a newly developed, patent-pending AIDCO GripStar CFVC 200 end-of-arm-tooling (EOAT) mounted on the KUKA robot. The CFVC 200 EOAT features a two-in-one dual-head design that palletizes or depalletizes SKUs of varying dimensions, handles cases, shrink-wraps containers, trays and crates for a variety of industries, including the food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries. AIDCO International, in business over 30 years in Adrian, Michigan, focuses on the manufacture and integration of conventional and robotic depalletizing and palletizing, robotic case packing and case stacking/denesting systems for the food, consumer product and beverage industries. KUKA Robotics Corporation, with its parent company KUKA Roboter GmbH, Augsburg, Germany, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial robots, with an annual production volume approaching 10,000 units, and an installed base of over 60,000 units. The companys 5 and 6 axis robots range from 3kg to 570kg payloads, and 635mm to 3700mm reach, all controlled from a common PC based controller platform. KUKA robots are utilized in a diverse range of industries including the appliance, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, logistics, food, pharmaceutical, medical, foundry and plastics industries and in multiple applications including material handling, machine loading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, welding, bending, joining, and surface finishing.
