Edmonton, Alberta – March 4, 2008 - Matrikon launched Mobile Equipment Monitor, which allows mining operations to monitor, analyze and improve fleet performance in real-time.

Mining operations now have the capability to accurately predict and prevent incidents and equipment failures, reduce downtime and significantly extend equipment life. Matrikon Mobile Equipment Monitor is a vendor independent and scalable monitoring system that meets the requirements of the smallest mine or multiple-site enterprise.

Matrikon Mobile Equipment Monitor remotely collects all available operating data such as temperature, pressure, position, speed and alarms from the equipment’s onboard sensors and systems and transmits the data to a central database. Mining personnel have the ability to track and trend key performance indicators, manage OEM and user defined alarms and predict impending equipment issues. The result is a considerable reduction in operating and maintenance costs and increased equipment availability.

Nizar J. Somji, president & CEO of Matrikon stated: “The launch of Matrikon Mobile Equipment Monitor will provide an opportunity for our mining clients to realize significant improvements in equipment operations and cost saving in the operation of their large and costly equipment.”

Mining haul trucks, shovels and other mobile equipment fleets represent some of the highest capital and operating costs of a mining operation. Controlling these escalating costs is one of the primary challenges facing the mining industry today. As a result, many mining organizations are investing in cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives that will maximize profitability and help ensure viability in an increasingly competitive market.
