Wilmington, MA, March 9, 2006 MKS Instruments, Inc. (Nasdaq: MKSI), a leading provider of process control technologies for improving productivity in advanced manufacturing processes, has introduced the RMU Linux Logic Controller; an open, integrated platform for real-time automation control, data acquisition and process monitoring. Based on PowerPC and Linux technology, the RMU offers unprecedented levels of I/O and on-board features in a compact package. Logic flexibility, based on C/C++ running on Linux, is now limitless compared to traditional PLC systems.
With a 4 x 4 x 2.5 footprint, the RMU core is expandable with up to four I/O cards, which utilize a modular PCI-104 bus allowing users the flexibility to add third party cards. It features up to 96 DIO points, up to 64 analog input points, and 32 output points for critical high speed process applications. Additional I/O and devices can be connected using Ethernet communication on the second LAN port.
Configured with a robust Linux environment, the RMU controller has all necessary functions to begin rapid development of your application, including peripherals such as Dual Ethernet, USB, CompactFlash, (4) Serial ports and a CAN port. It provides data monitoring of remote processes with factory server data integration, interactive operator control interface or HMI using graphical web pages, and connection to non-networked facilities equipment for instant data integration using the units integrated SenseLink software. Local web browser-based diagnostics provide fast debug and validation.
