Moxa Introduces First 802.11g Wireless Serial Device Server in the World
Moxa Technologies, a leading provider of Industrial Device Networking solutions, introduces the new NPort W2004/W2150/W2250 Wireless Serial Device Servers that bring traditional serial devices into the WLAN era. The NPort W2004 is designed for system integrators to connect up to 4 RS-232/422/485 devices to a host computer via a high-speed 802.11g+b wireless LAN network and NPort W2150/W2250 can connect 1 or 2 RS-232/422/485 devices to a standard 802.11b wireless LAN.

"We are excited to be the first company in the world to provide an 802.11g-based serial server, and give industrial networking professionals total solutions that can be used to connect 1 to 4 serial devices to a wireless LAN," said Andy Cheng, Product Manager. "With the NPort W2004/W2150/W2250, our customers can leverage their existing investment in both devices and software by moving the serial devices to a new Wi-Fi infrastructure. All settings are configured via web browser with the built-in Ethernet or WLAN port, and the Quick Configuration Wizard that lets you configure the NPort Wireless Serial Device Servers in 4 easy steps from a Web console … Customers can seamlessly integrate devices and software over the new Wireless LAN infrastructure via standard Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). Also, all of Moxa's new NPort Wireless Serial Device Servers support 128-bit encryption. In addition the NPort W2004 provides enhanced configuration via HTTPS and SSH for stronger protection."

The NPort W2004/W2150/W2250 supports field proven Real COM/TTY drivers for Windows and Linux systems, ensuring that existing PC software will still work when used with the new Wireless LAN infrastructure. TCP Server, TCP Client, and UDP modes are also supported, so that IP-based software (e.g., Telnet) can access each device directly by knowing the IP address and TCP port number.
