Moxa Releases Media Converters for Rugged Environments

City of Industry, CA (Aug. 26, 2003) - Following in the footsteps of Moxa’s managed and unmanaged Ethernet Switch series products, Moxa is now ready to release the new Industrial Media Converter IMC-101 Series that connects 10/100BaseT(X) copper lines to 100BaseFX fiber.

IMC-101 overcomes a common problem faced by traditional media converters - when one side of the link fails, the other side continues transmitting packets, and then waits for a response that never arrives from the disconnected side. IMC-101’s unique “Link Fault Pass-Through” feature forces the link to shut down as soon as it notices that the other link has failed, giving the application software a chance to react to the situation.

Designed for continuous operation in industrial environments, IMC-101 provides two 12-48 VDC power inputs that can be connected simultaneously to live DC power sources. If one power input fails, the other source acts as a backup, and automatically satisfies IMC-101’s power needs. In addition, IMC-101 provides relay contact outputs to warn technicians on the shop floor when the power fails or a port link is disconnected, so they can respond quickly with appropriate emergency operation procedures.

IMC-101 supports 10/100BaseT(X) auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX, and comes with Multi-mode SC or ST, and single-mode SC fiber connectors. DIN-Rail or panel mountable installations are also available.
