New Machine Safety Consulting Services from Rockwell Automation Support Manufacturers' Safety Programs and May Improve Productivity

New consulting services help manufacturers reduce costs, comply with industry standards and reduce lost-time accidents

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, Mar. 6, 2003 By adding consulting services to its portfolio of safety and automation solutions for machine safeguarding applications, Rockwell Automation can help manufacturers more cost-effectively plan and implement their safety programs.

The new consulting services include safety compliance audits and risk assessments for machines that must meet North American safety standards such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Following guidelines set by OSHA and ANSI and other accepted industry standards, Rockwell Automations machine safeguarding services enable companies to quickly and efficiently implement appropriate safety processes and initiatives. With these new services, Rockwell Automation has expanded its portfolio of safety products, systems and solutions.

The goal is to help reduce lost-time accidents and enhance workplace safety, which can result in improved employee morale and ultimately enhanced productivity.

· Risk assessment the development of a risk assessment process and the performance of the risk assessment for manufacturing machinery, based on industry-accepted standards. The risk assessment process includes consensus- building among the consultant team and the clients to determine the risk reduction required for each hazard identified during the risk analysis. This risk assessment can be conducted for a specific machine and/or line of machines.
· Risk Reduction Planning a process for specific machine and/or line of machines that mitigates each identified safety hazard by a process of redesign or additional measures. In some instances, this could involve designing out a hazard, fixed
guarding, electro-mechanical guarding, personal protective equipment, and/or training. Risk reduction planning can also include technical specification of safety devices that can provide the level of risk reduction required, and may also include performance of probability of failure-on-demand calculations and other related engineering services.
