| POSITAL adds PROFIDrive to OPTOCODE rotary encoders | ||
|
||
January 18, 2009 POSITAL expanded its OPTOCODE family of rotary encoders for PROFINET IO networks, equipping them with a new, Ertec200-based platform. The new models support RT (real-time) and NRT (non-real-time) data transfer according to the PROFIDrive profile with cycle times as short as 10 ms. IRT (isochronous real-time) models with cycle times as low as 1 ms will be available shortly for high-speed applications. These encoders now allow users to assign IP addresses via the control system according to ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) during start-up. The units are parameterized via the control system; the use of a GSDML device file enables easy configuration. The identification request is displayed by means of flashing LEDs. A bootloader enables the installation of firmware updates via FTP. Like all OPTOCODE encoders, the PROFINET IO models use a proven opto-electronic scanning method to record position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 bit per revolution (65,536 steps per turn). In addition, a maximum of 16,384 revolutions (14 bit) can be registered in multi-turn mode, for a total measurement range of 30 bits. The encoders are suitable for use in automotive manufacture, packaging technology or standard machine construction applications. Migration of existing Profibus systems to the new standard is easily possible, since PROFINET uses the established device profiles. An integrated switch facilitates wiring. Equipment options include two M12 connections for data transfer, one M12 connection for voltage supply, and LEDs for bus diagnosis. Designed for a -40 to +85 °C (-40 to 185oF) temperature range, the units are IP65 protected (up to IP66 at the flange). All OPTOCODE encoders operate without backup batteries and instantly provide current absolute position values even after power failure. |
