Weidmuller introduces SAI High Flex cables
August 12, 2008 — Today’s automation applications place rigorous demands on connectivity products such as cables. These products must be resistant to water and dust, shock and vibration, and a broad range of ambient temperatures. And they need to stand up to the continuous stresses resulting from C-track, robotic and other motion applications in order to prevent machine failures and costly downtime.

Weidmuller introduces a new line of SAI High Flex cables designed for the most demanding continuous flexing applications. These new cables include PUR/PVC cables and halogen free PUR/PUR cables that are rated for C-track applications, to weld slag-resistant PUR cables designed to endure the twisting motion of robotic applications.

Applying their industry knowledge and expertise, Weidmuller designed and tested their new high flex cables in C-track applications, where the cable continuously rolls back and forth, over 2100mm at 1.75m/s and an acceleration reaching 50m/s2. The halogen free PUR/PUR cables achieved a rating of 2 million cycles and the standard PUR/PVC cables are rated at 20 million cycles, without failure.

Weidmuller’s high flex robotic cables are designed to meet a minimum of 5 million cycles without failure. In addition to rolling tests over a distance of 5 meters at a speed of 3.3m/s and acceleration of 5 m/s2, the SAI high flex robotic cables are also subjected to a special torsion test that simulates the 360° torsion twisting motion of most demanding robotic applications. These cables also feature a special PUR jacket that provides protection against melting from weld slag, making them an optimal choice for robotic welding applications.

All of the new SAI High Flex cables are available in 3-, 4- and 5-pole versions as plug-and-play assemblies with M12 or M8 male or female connectors, for reduced installation and maintenance time. For applications that require on-site custom cable assembly, PUR/PVC and halogen free PUR/PUR bulk cable is available in 100-meter lengths. Combined with Weidmuller customizable connectors, users can create reliable and customized cable assemblies easily and quickly for a full range of C-track and motion applications.

Weidmuller SAI High Flex cables are UL and CSA approved. They feature a neutral black jacket that is oil, grease and lubricant resistant, allowing them to be installed directly on the machine. For more information, go to www.weidmuller.com.
