noax adds heating system to its industrial PCs
July 2, 2007 - No matter whether exposed to vibration, humidity, water, dust or oil, noax mobile computers prove themselves daily in rugged, continuous use in the most varied production environments. On the basis of a well-designed and intelligent heating system, the noax 8” Compact (C8) and 12” Compact (C12) mobile PCs can be used in an extended temperature range dfown to -4º. Thanks to a high output and energy efficient heater, the industrial PCs can be brought up to operational temperature and started in only 5 minutes, and there is nothing that stands in the way of their use in a refrigeration area.

An electronically regulated and permanently monitored heating system provides maximum operational security for the noax rugged mobile computers.
The noax engineers, who developed the heating system, gave special thought to intelligent heating. According to Michael Kulp, head of development at noax Technologies: “A system, which provides heat independently of ambient temperatures and simply shuts down after a certain time, was unacceptable to us from the start, just as an uncontrolled system was, which overheats and burns up.”. The result was an electronically regulated, permanently monitored, and individually configured heater. A temperature sensor in the terminal constantly monitors ambient temperature and compares the results with the values of the temperature inside. Should the temperature parameters drop to a critical level, the heater is automatically switched on, and the terminal is heated to the required operational temperature. Once the right temperature is reached, the heater automatically shuts off. This procedure can be repeated as often as necessary, and prevents the rugged industrial computer from being operated at temperatures that are either too high or too low, thus preventing the destruction or premature failure of sensitive electronic components. By allowing the temperature to drop below the specifications of the components only once, as a rule, below 32º F, the life expectancy of a display can be reduced up to 5%.

Heater monitoring and permanent regulating by the noax micro controller unit (MCU setup)
Various parameters of the heating system can be configured individually and monitored by using only a single software tool, the noax micro controller unit (MCU setup), which already regulates the speed of the fans, as well as the background illumination of the terminals. The operator can therefore choose between an autostart function or manual use of the heater, and he can, for example, also deactivate the heater entirely, in order to save battery resources during the summer months. Critical operating conditions are displayed and then regulated by the noax mobile computer. The respective procedures are accompanied by clear visual and audio signals through indicator elements on the keypad. User-friendly aspects of the terminals can be demonstrated by their high level of user acceptance.

Retrofitting of the heating system without problems
Subsequent retrofitting to the new heating system of all noax Compact C8 and C12 rugged mobile computer, currently in use, having a motherboard type N7, can be done by contacting noax service.

World-wide, noax Technologies is the leading manufacturer of rugged, tough and reliable NEMA 4X touch panel industrial computers. The company's business strategy is to use proprietary industrial electronics in completely sealed panel PCs without external fans. noax rugged industrial computers are being used in the harshest environments where the touch panel PCs are proving their resistance to heat, cold, moisture, dust, vibration, shock, acids and detergents.
