OMRON Announces Establishment of Safety Devices Division to Strengthen Safety Business


Kyoto, Japan, Apr. 06, 2005 - OMRON Corporation (TSE: 6645; US: OMRNY) a global leader in automation, sensing and control technology, has announced the April 1 creation of the "Safety Devices Division" as a division of its Industrial Automation Business Company (IAB). OMRON established this new department to strengthen its capability to respond to social safety needs. The "Safety Devices Division" will aim for sales of 15 billion yen in the safety business through fiscal year 2007, double the current sales amount.

The new IAB business department has been developed not only to correspond to growing industrial concerns including quality, safety and environment, but also positions the safety business as one of the strategic measures that will help OMRON to realize the GD2010 mid term management plan. OMRON wishes to provide new values to customers with its original Sensing & Control technology. With the safety business concept of "Providing the most suitable measures to global users and machine vendors to secure work place safety", OMRON is committed to strengthening its Safety Components Business global support capacity and product lineup.

OMRON presently provides safety components such as safety switches, safety light curtains, safety relays etc, to prevent risk. But with the recent growth of safety concern, including safety conditions in the workplace, both within Japan's manufacturing industry and worldwide, countermeasures, such as prioritizing safety from the design stage, have been emphasized. The Safety Components Business Department has been created to develop and provide sensing, control components and consulting products that prevent the risk of hazard at the manufacturing site, and to achieve the following:

1. Provide sensing components and control components as hardware.
2. Provide system solutions for complicated safety circuits and control circuits.
3. Consulting in the field of safety design with OMRON knowhow and expertise.

With our organization enhanced along the lines of safety, OMRON will continue to provide not only safe components, but grow towards an ever better solutions partner that will help to solve customers unique concerns.
