Omron announces Trajexia Motion Controller
SCHAUMBURG, IL - December 5, 2007 — Omron is introducing a new motion control platform that sweeps away many of the complexities that plague traditional motion control. Via simple motion commands, the new Trajexia platform allows system designers to program the most complex motion tasks with no compromise on accuracy and performance.

The platform’s open standard imposes no restrictions on the brand of PLCs and other components, giving designers complete freedom in their choice of components. By developing a controller capable of translating simple user-friendly commands into the most sophisticated motion profiles, Omron has put its customers in complete control of the development process. This enables them to develop optimum dedicated motion solutions while releasing them from the need for heavy in-house investments in proprietary solutions or continued reliance on specialist suppliers.

At the heart of the Trajexia platform is Omron’s new TJ multi-tasking motion coordinator. Powered by a 32-bit DSP, it is specifically designed to meet the most demanding motion tasks such as interpolation and e-cam, e-gearbox and registration control. By controlling up to 16 axes over a MECHATROLINK-II motion bus, with independent position, speed or torque control for every axis, it reduces wiring and space and offers full programming transparency right down to actuator level.

Trajexia’s open standard also frees system designers from vendor restrictions. The controller features a built-in serial port that provides direct connectivity with Omron PLCs, HMIs or any other field device, and an Ethernet port for direct and fast connectivity with either Omron or third-party PLCs. It also provides other connectivity options including interfaces to popular fieldbuses such as Profibus-DP and DeviceNet. The flexible configuration allows integration of up to eight inverters and I/O modules.

Programming even complex motion tasks is easy thanks to Trajexia’s intuitive and powerful programming tool based on the Motion Basic instruction set. The software includes dedicated commands for linking axes, e-cams, e-gearboxes etc. Automatic recognition, control and configuration of drives via the MECHATROLINK bus allows easy set-up and maintenance – locally or remotely. When used with Omron PLCs, HMIs and other field devices, Trajexia is also fully integrated within Omron’s CX-One automation software suite, with motion coordination, drive configuration and system debugging performed over the Ethernet connection. Trajexia’s sophisticated encryption method ensures protection and confidentiality for valuable know-how.

The Trajexia motion control unit is available in four-axis and 16-axis models with built-in Ethernet and RS-232C/RS-422 serial ports for interfacing with PLCs and HMIs and data logging. A Flexible Axis module allows full control of two actuators via analog output or pulse train for inverters, stepper motors, third-party servo drives and hydraulic actuators, as well as external master encoders. Network modules are available for MECHATROLINK-II master, DeviceNet slave and Profibus-DP slave. A Trajexia motion control system with four-axis controller and a power supply starts at $3,500 and is available from stock.
