Omron Electronics LLC and Weber Marking Systems, Inc. Join Forces to Produce More Cost-Effective RFID Labeling

SCHAUMBURG, IL (November 7, 2004)— Omron Electronics LLC has announced the formation of a new strategic alliance with label and label applicator manufacturer Weber Marking Systems, Inc. Omron is a leading manufacturer of industrial automation and inspection products with global sales exceeding $5 billion, while Weber Marking Systems is a leading global provider of pressure-sensitive labels and labeling equipment. The new alliance will enable the two companies to provide customers with the highest quality EPC-compliant RFID smart labels and UHF agile readers available in the industry that conform to the EPC code standard.

Recent mandates by larger retailers such as Wal-Mart require EPC-compliant RFID coding of shipments. This has created a demand among suppliers to those retailers for effective RFID tags at the lowest cost. Weber is known for the consistent performance of the smart labels and automatic label applicators they manufacture. Omron produces high-quality EPC-conforming RFID inlets which carry the data carrier chip and antenna that are the heart of the RFID tag. Together, the two produce smart labels that maximize RFID tag quality and readability of the tag after application to a carton.

“Combining Omron’s quality RFID inlets and Weber Marking Systems’ label conversion and automatic label application expertise offers companies high quality tags that can be applied at production speeds in large volumes,” said Paul Witt, Omron’s Strategic Sales Manager. “That helps control the cost of meeting Wal-Mart’s mandate and better ensures the acceptability of shipments, limiting returns.”
