Omron Introduces New Z500 Laser Measurement Sensor that Performs Accurate Two-dimensional Measurements in a Single Procedure

Omron Introduces New Z500 Laser Measurement Sensor that Performs Accurate Two-dimensional Measurements in a Single Procedure
SCHAUMBURG, IL (December 12, 2003)—The Omron Z500 laser measurement sensor is unique in the industry in combining a wide-beam laser (4 to 45 mm in width, depending on the model) and a two-dimensional CCD to conduct extremely accurate two-dimensional measurements in a single procedure. This eliminates the time needed by traditional laser sensors for multiple single-point measurements and increases accuracy by eliminating sensor and object movement during measurement. The sensor uses a Class II or IIIb visible red laser (depending on model) and measures at distances from 5.2 to 100 mm with resolution from 2.5 to 1.0 microns. Users can measure level difference, and width or edge position, as needed.

The Z500 system includes a sensor (up to 2 can be connected), a controller, a programming console, and a liquid crystal monitor that can display measurement data in four different formats to meet the needs of the user. The sensor measures a wide variety of shapes, making it adaptable to a number of applications.

The Z500 sensor is ideal for automotive applications such as inspecting the quality and contour of body welds, positioning of body components, inspecting engine and drive train parts and checking engine seal integrity. Electronics applications include inspecting soldered joints on PC boards and measurement of connector pin configuration. The Z500 sensor system is currently available from stock at a cost of $20,000.
