| ProSoft Technology releases HART analog input gateway | ||

September 29, 2008 - ProSoft Technology's HART Analog Input gateway provides a clean way to integrate HART instruments with existing controller platforms over Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP and DF1 networks. The gateways are available in four and eight channel options, where each channel is individually configurable and structured for point-to-point communication, thus ensuring the fastest possible update times (67 milliseconds) from HART field devices as opposed to methods which scan the HART channels. Applications There are 20 million HART smart field devices installed worldwide. The HART Analog Input gateways are ideal for factory automation and process applications that need to expedite data retrieval from these devices, particularly where the devices are not located near the controller. The gateway allows the HART Master to be placed close to HART instruments in order to minimize material and installation costs associated with running copper cable to a controller cabinet. The gateway also has an onboard power supply and requires no additional purchase to operate. The HART Analog Input gateway can monitor variables such as flow, temperature, pressure, and PH, and are additionally able to read and write to digital data such as reading device firmware revisions. HART Analog and Multi-Drop The primary difference between HART multi-drop and HART Analog is the tradeoff of volume for speed, respectively. For high volume applications, ProSoft Technologys HART Multi-drop products are ideal, allowing up to 120 HART devices to be installed on the same current loop. HART Analog Input is point-to-point, so with the HART Analog Input gateways, each HART channel can connect to a single field device, ensuring optimal signal speeds from the devices. HART Analog is backward-compatible with most existing analog I/O systems, and is faster than any other field communications protocol, with almost instantaneous response time from the 4-20mA analog signal, depending upon the signal dampening built into the system.
