ProSoft announces Wireless Designer software tool
April 27, 2009 - ProSoft Technology has developed a unique software solution for helping automation engineers to plan and specify their industrial wireless networks: ProSoft Wireless Designer (PWD).

Ease of use
Designed for non-RF specialists, ProSoft Wireless Designer (PWD) simplifies the task of planning and specifying wireless networks. The wizard-based software interface makes it easy to use. ProSoft Wireless Designer creates a visual layout for the whole wireless architecture. The interface screens help to describe and specify in an accurate manner the key parameters of the wireless network, such as:
  • Type of radio, frequency range, country specific RF-channels
  • Length and types of cables
  • Accessories such as lightning protector, cable adaptors, antennas
  • GPS coordinates for each radio (for outdoor applications)

While the user is specifying his wireless network project, ProSoft Wireless Designer checks transmission quality for each individual link between radios, according to distances and the recommended accessories. In particular, the software evaluates the signal strength and the expected quality of transmission according to distance, throughput, local regulation, selected material (cable and other accessories losses, antenna gains, etc.).

At the end of the wireless project study, a technical document is generated. It details the wireless network: exhaustive description of material for each node (helps for budget estimation) and of each link (quality of data transmission). ProSoft Wireless Designer creates the detailed list of material necessary for the installation of the wireless network (each individual radio, cables, lightning protectors, connectors, antennas and other accessories). The software also evaluates the quality of each individual link according to the selected hardware and the power level settings (taking local regulation into account) which were defined during the study.

This detailed information (list of material, detailed settings and quality of wireless links) are necessary and very useful for site survey preparation and report, for installation and deployment of the wireless solution, for network maintenance and supervision. For this reason, ProSoft Wireless Designer allows exportation in standard CSV file format, for easy integration of all this valuable information into study reports, technical documentation, maintenance manuals, etc. ProSoft Wireless Designer software includes a database describing every RadioLinx radios, antennas, cables, connectors and other accessories currently available at ProSoft Technology.

ProSoft Technology specializes in industrial wireless communications, standalone protocol-interface gateways, and in-rack application modules for PLCs. Over the last 20 years, ProSoft Technology product range has expanded to more than 400 products and now supports more than 60 industrial protocols.
