Red Lion Controls Adds Modem Support to G3 Operator Panels

Red Lion Controls Adds Modem Support to G3 Operator Panels
Red Lion’s G3 operator panels now provide support for both dial-in and dial-out modem connections by means of the industry standard PPP protocol. These TCP/IP based connections can be used to dial the Internet in order to send alarm messages, or to receive incoming connections from a central station. Once a connection is made and the identity of the other party is established, the caller may use the G3’s unique Virtual Panel facility to remotely monitor and control the unit with only a web browser. Better yet, with the G3’s shared serial ports, PLC programming software running on the centrally located PC can be fooled into thinking that it is talking directly to a device connected to the G3—even though the device may be thousands of miles away!

In addition to landline modems, the G3 now supports GSM-based modems in either CSD or GPRS mode, allowing remote TCP/IP communications in locations where landlines are not currently available. SMS facilities are also provided, allowing text messages to be sent to one or more cell phones whenever a process value exceeds a predefined limit. Where alarm notifications are sent to multiple recipients, the G3 may optionally be configured to relay any replies to the other recipients of the original message, thereby implementing a text message conferencing facility to allow service engineers to discuss an alarm message, or take ownership of a given problem. No other HMI makes remote monitoring and control so simple!

The company offers a free brochure detailing typical applications for the G3. More information can also be found at the company's web site: www.redlion.net/G3
