Wooster, OH – January 7, 2008 - The new BODAS RC36-20 controller from Rexroth utilizes state-of-the-art, 32-bit TriCore technology to increase the functionality and performance of electronic control of mobile hydraulics equipment.

The BODAS RC36-20 provides a central electronic control unit (ECU) platform for modern, efficient, electrohydraulic system solutions. It lets equipment builders and operators expand mobile equipment functions and reduce energy consumption – thereby reducing costs. Plus, the system’s rugged compact, design means it can easily replace multiple 16-bit controllers or smaller PLC systems, helping to save valuable installation space and reduce wiring.

With 125 input and output channels as well as four CAN bus interfaces, the BODAS RC36-20 serves as the central ECU for complex multi-function machines. It offers a flexible platform for deploying new mobile applications, including "shift on fly" gear shifting, electrohydraulic flow matching (EFM) for operating functions, or the hydrostatic regenerative brake system (HRB) from Rexroth.

The advanced TriCore technology includes 150 MHz clock timing and parallel processing to run highly complex control circuits and mathematical floating-point operations. This provides the performance needed for demanding applications such as load torque limiting in crane applications, while simultaneously performing all other necessary functions for the working and drive hydraulics.

Compared to PLC systems, the BODAS RC36-20 offers considerable advantages in mobile applications. The unit’s space-saving design, condensing a 32-bit device into a unit with a surface area less than half a sheet of letter-sized paper, was developed from Bosch's extensive testing and experience in the automotive sector.

Resistant to the demanding conditions of the mobile work environment, the unit is rated for IP65 protection against water spraydown/penetration, shock, vibration, moisture, salt spray and electromagnetic radiation.

High reliability and system availability are ensured through short-circuit and reverse polarity-protected inputs and outputs. Plus, the BODAS RC36-20 supports intelligent Rexroth sensors such as the DSM1-10 speed sensor with integrated diagnostic functions to help improve system vehicle availability. The proportional outputs are temperature and voltage compensated, enabling sensitive and precise control of electrically actuated valves, pumps and motors.

The RC36-20 builds on the proven Rexroth BODAS software functionality. Its Windows-based tools, such as BODAS-design and BODAS-service, offer an easy transition to the integrated development and service environment for the 32-bit world.

BODAS-design provides software developers with a fast introduction to graphic or text-based programming of the Rexroth controllers according to IEC 6-1131 standards. Comprehensive and complex applications can be easily developed and implemented with BODAS-design.

The graphical user interface of BODAS-service makes system parameterization, diagnostics and maintenance much easier and more efficient, speeding mobile equipment startup and maximizing uptime. With its Flash module, BODAS-service can quickly and easily transfer programs to the BODAS RC36-20. Communication is via the KWP 2000 (Key Word Protocol) standard, which is widely used in the vehicle industry.
Bosch Rexroth AG, part of the Bosch Group, achieved sales of approximately $6.2 billion (4.9 billion Euro) in 2006 with over 29,800 employees.
